HDD User PW reset

Hello,

I am the Manager of a rent-to-own store in Klamath Falls, OR

We recently recieved back an Acer computer with a Western Digital WD2500BEVT hard drive.
The problem I am having is that because we were repossessing the computer, the customer put in a HDD User Password and refuses to give us that password.
I have tried everyhting I know how to reset the password but have had no luck.
Acer and Western Digital are no help. They say that they do not have a backdoor password and that I have to buy another HD.

I have also tried hooking it another computer as a slave but the computer doesn't recognize the drive.

Any help would be very appreciated.

  1. What do you mean by HDD User Password?

can you access the BIOS? Can you see the HDD in the BIOS?

Are you talking about the Windows password?
  2. Could be BitLocker Drive Encryption, TrueCrypt, PGP Whole Disk Encryption, and several other possibilities.

With the lack of any real useful description of the problem it's just a guessing game.

If nothing on the hard disk drive needs to be retained then wipe the drive.

If it's a BIOS password, that's easy to remedy.
