So first I was gonna get this at the price of $139.99 AMD Phenom II 810
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103650
They raise the price so I was crap need more cash, to get a quad.

The Cheapest AM3 CPU was then the AMD Phenom II x4 945 for $179.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103675
Was just gonna order it tomorrow!

What's the deal with this random pricing? Is something new coming out soon? I only need the processor and my new gaming rig will be a success! :D

But now it's like what the heck!

The next cheapest quad is AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition for 209.99 which is well over what I wanted to pay for a quad core. I originally just wanted to pay $139.99...

This doesn't make any sense to me does it you!? :o

In a way you're working hard to screw yourself.
If getting a few extra bux isn't an option get the $119 Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz BE
At stock it's actually faster for gaming than the Phenom II 810 and isn't far behind the Phenom II 940/945.
720 vs 810 comparison
And if you're maxing out your graphics quality and are GPU limited it will perform just about as well as the Phenom II 955.

One rule of thumb when dealing with newegg is to buy it when you see it at a good price. Don't wait ten minutes or expect it to be $20 cheaper in a week because the prices fluctuate in minutes sometimes.

As far as the 720 vs the 810. I'd get the quad core. Although the tri-core and quad are close the extra core comes in handy sometimes. ( http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] ,2373.html ).

I put together a machine for my nephew using it. Couldn't be happier. Got it for $134....

WR2 presents a great option. It would be faster in single threaded apps (most previously released games) and will still hold its own in most multi-threaded apps, although the X3 720 does fall behind in apps that can run on 4 cores or more.

swify_morgan is right.Just 5 minutes after I ordered my Phenom II X4 955 BE + motherboard combo deal it dropped in price by $5.I didn't feel too bad about it though because a few hours later it the same combo deal went up in price by $15.
Also later in the month their prices seem to drop and the prices seem the highest at the beginning of the month.

Has the term "overcoring" been coined yet?

^ newegg works hard at being a good company with great customer service. They're not perfect, but they try hard to be.

True that. Newegg does a fantastic job with just about everything: shipping, pricing, customer service, all top notch. And it appears we even have a Newegg rep on our beloved Tom's forum.
