First-tier motherboard players Asustek Computer, Pegatron Technology, Micro-Star International (MSI), Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Gigabyte Technology have all announced on-month revenue increases for September. However, looking at their sales totals for the first nine months of this year, most motherboard players' totals are down about 20% from the same period last year, with Gigabyte and Pegatron being the only two makers whose revenues are within 10% of last year's totals... Asustek shipped 5.9 million motherboards in the third quarter.

Let's hear it for Gigabyte.

Wonder if and when Gigabyte will overtake Asus?

Actually, not much can be inferred about motherboard sales, the chart refers to quarterly "revenues" for the company, which include the entire product range (netbooks, notebooks, graphics cards, et. al.). Quarterly mobo shipments are given for some manufacturers, while only the Sept. 09 mobo shipments are given for others, which makes it difficult to compare.

But from the looks of it, Pegatron would come out ahead of ASUS strictly in mobo sales. FYI, Pegatron is the OEM/ODM manufacturing arm of ASUS, which split from ASUS a while back.

+1 Gigabyte

I wonder if Asus is counting the thousands of replacement rma boards they ship out every day as sales.

Thanks man. Speaking of Pegatron, looks like they'll take a more active role: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] n#t1860310
