Memory enigma...

ok, I'm new here, so I hope I'm in the right place...
I have an memory problem...so, I have 2x2gb DDR2 memory resources, but when I check it in system, it's telling me that there's only 3gb of memory available...but when I check it in device manager it is telling me that there's 4gb of memory...what might be cause for this??? also, is my system really lacking that 1gb of memory???

The device manager will report all of the memory size to you whereas the system can only "see" or "use" about 3.5 GB if it is a 32 bit operating system. (That it the maximum that the operating system can address.)

yep, I have 32 bit windows xp, so I guess that's the cause...thank you very much!!!
