I'm using the onboard Via HD audio on a 5.1 speaker setup but both rear speakers don't produce any sound but when I test them from the Via HD audio deck they all work fine. Anyone know how to solve this?

Go thru Control Panel / Sounds and make sure all devices are set to the HD audio and not another source, like AC'97.

Everything is set correct there, but still no sound from the rear speakers.

Well, if they work in the Demo and don't at other times, everything is not set correct. Need to start with basics, including the speaker icon. Most likely there's no volume being sent to them and/or muted.

What is it that doesn't work? Everything else?

I just did some tests on the speakers, DVD's work, games work, Windows Media Player works its only iTunes that the sound doesn't work in 5.1 surround for some reason. Anyone know why Windows Media Player can play music in 5.1 and not iTunes?

And are these audio files that won't do 5.1 surround or video files?

If video, then this is a documented issue with Apple and their iTunes 8.0. I haven't researched it much but here's an item about it.

Otherwise, I would look at settings within the iTunes - not Windows. Might upgrade the version, etc... and review the support site.
