I've always been bothered by the word "motherboard" - the whole basic concept of the mother with slots and such leaves me feeling a bit yucky. And thinking of the motherboard and daughterboards doesn't help any.

And I hate the term some use Mobo - argh... the mental picture I get is MoFo which isn't nice at all. I use MB if I get lazy typing.

Think of it as the nervous system. Like said above, everything connects to it. It's as important as the processor and video card. Try to match the features you will be using with a board you're after.
