Are you sure it's supported by your monitor?

When you try to display a resolution higher than the maximum supported your screen will black out and your resolution will turn back to the previous value after 15 seconds.

Try changing it directlly from the video card panel, not from the Settings tab in Windows.
If you're sure it's supported ,try via registry at the X and Y values. If you want to try that, I'll post the reg entry.
