Just wondering what would be a good choice for a 23" display. I don't want to spend way too much on a video card and find out it is overkill. I only plan on playing a few games:

GTA IV
CoD4 & 5
Left 4 Dead

And probably a couple more in the future, but (hopefully) nothing near as graphically intensive as Crysis or anything. The max I'm willing to spend is probably about $230. Any help is appreciated.

The main card I've looked at is the 4890, mainly because it's pretty cheap for the performance.

4890 will serve you right....
Or you can get 2x 4770 if you hae a motherboard that supports crossfirex. This setup will blast away the 4890 or GTX 275 for 20 or 30 bucks less.

Or you can get the GTX 275 from the green side of the table. It costs the same as 4890.

The place I plan on buying from, along with a few others, doesn't have 4770's in stock.. Or I probably would do that, even though I would prefer sticking to a single GPU.

The GTX 275 is about $40 more, at least at Newegg.

you could definitely save alot of money by getting a 4870 or 4850. none of those games are particularly demanding so you don't really need a 4890. save the extra money and put it towards a future upgrade.

Here's the PSU and mobo I plan on getting:

Along with a Q6600 I already have, and 4GB A-data RAM. Oh, and an 8800GTS SSC edition (640mb).

Nik_I, GTA IV is.. I know those others aren't as much, but I'd like the ability to run some fairly-demanding games.

Any others? ATI or nVidia, it doesn't matter.

If you want the game +1 GTX275. If not, go for the 4870/90. Either way you'll be happy.

@AK - Never heard of Sparkle.. Rather stick to someone well-known.

@Raidur - Already have the game. Really wish I would have waited and got it free with a deal, it's not worth the money.. Plus the GTX275 is about $30 more.

Sparkle is a good company, their customer service is quick and on time. Sparkle isn't as popular as BFG, EVGA, XFX though. I have a Sparkle gfx card myself. They are the company that also makes the "calibre" cooled GPU lineup

Still, I'm not going to pay $30 more for a card that only performs a few frames better in the resolutions I plan on playing on.

Then I guess the Sapphire 4890 is the way to go. Good Luck E_J

yea, i heard good things about sparkle as well. but i agree w/the others. 4890 is a solid single card for the price. it's really easy to OC. you can get 900clock 1000memory using CCC pretti easily. depending on your card, you might have a lot more headroom
