I have a Gigabyte MA57SLI-S4 motherboard. When connecting the Ethernet cord I get the message that there is "little or no internet connection". The internet browser shows that there is no internet. Using the same Ethernet cable on my laptop I the internet works perfectly. I tried WinSock and reinstalling Windows XP. What is the problem?

Try this.
Connect the laptop and go the ip config. page and write everything you see there.
Disconnect the laptop, connect the desktop and go to the same ipconfig page and type in the same numbers you saw on the laptop.
Click close and see if that helps.

Also, make sure that all the devices are installed properly with the updated drivers.

Look in device manager and make sure that the nic doesn't have an exclamation mark on it.

If you just type ipconfig in the windows "Run..." menu, it will do that, open a DOS window and then type ipconfig on the prompt.

BTW, what router model # are you using?
