Just a post probing the communities thoughts on the current topic, preferable with no fanboyism although it's a nigh impossibility =p

ATI & Nvidea both have 40nm parts planned for their flagships, both due later in the late Q4/Q4 timeframe. From what it seems to me, ATI are looking to push a more moderate performance bump with the inclusion of DX11 capability, raising the number of SPs by 50% to 1200 and doubling the number of ROPS to 32. The bus width will remain the same with higher clocked GDDR5 to make up the difference between then r770 series according to HEXUS. I heard elsewhere ATI will be going with a 512 bit bus however. To me it looks like the chip will be a relativlely sound and 'tried and tested' approach to their chip design.

Nvidea however seem to be bringing a lot more features on top of the performance bump. Rumors are nvidea more then doubling the number of SP's to 512 from 240, including the use of GDDR5 memory whilst maintaining the 512 bit mem bus which will double the memory bandwidth. The most interesting feature I see if the introduction of cpGPU technology. What exactly are nvidea hoping to bring by introducing it? Performance increases outside of the gaming environment?

My best guess is the G300 will be a slightly bigger chip then the G200 series (40nm chips with same transistors are about 52.8% smaller then 55nm), while ATI's will be significantly smaller. My best guess is nvidea will have more issues releasing this and hence will take more time to work things through then ATI will, I think that;s reflected in that ATI have publicly announced DX11 compliant parts by Windows 7 release while we are awaiting nvidea's reponse.

More about : expect generation cards

I'd prefer they release a card that performs on par or a little better than current cards, but isn't 10"+ long and didn't draw 250+ watts.

I agree with you on the Nvidia having more trouble though, too many changes in too many fronts is never a good thing, maybe they'll even have the same problems they had in eraly vista, terrible driver support and terrible reputation to the new OS.

And I'd really want ATI to step up their gpGPU game, I see some future in this tech.
