I'm having a hard time with stability at a measly 3ghz, which is pretty sad. I know the board is good to fsb 500 but this chip doesnt even like 300x10.

It passes P95 but sometimes when I restart or reboot it fails and goes back to 2.66.

Im running 300x10. Bumped voltage from 1.325 to 1.35v. Memory running at a 2.5 ratio at 760mhz. Thoughts or suggestions?

at 300x10 , everytime I'm in vista and I restart and choose windows 7, it fails and goes back to 2.66ghz.
Right now I'm trying 350x9 at 1.35v and not having that problem.

Tried more volts, still unstable at 300x10 (3ghz)

Totally stable right now at 350x9 (3.15ghz)

That's weird. Have you tried 315x10?

No.

I've done some googling and most of the higher overclocks I've seen with the Q6700 is being done with a 9x or 8x multiplier and a higher fsb like 380-400.

Still have some playing to do.

I had to go to 1.4v to hit 360x9 (3.24ghz). Seems prime stable for the moment. It wasnt at 1.35v, had to go to 1.4v.
Dont really want to go higher than this on voltage. Is 1.4v a safe everyday voltage for this processor?

Im running prime95 while I'm typing this and I'm hitting 60c with my hottest core. I have a Core Contact Freezer but its at its lowest fan setting. The pwm that came with it is defective so I cant raise the fan speed till they send me a new one.

1.4v is fine zipzoom, in fact it can take a helluva lot more. Mine is running at 1.56v I think, and the temps are amazing. It's an awesome cpu that you can push quite a bit further than 3.2ghz if you want to, but like I said in your other thread, it is diminishing returns on quite a spectacular scale.

You might only get it to 3.6ghz and that would take 1.55v, you have to decide if it's worth that or not.

Seems like an awefully high voltage for a 3ghz OC. I have mine running 1.31v idle shown in CPU-Z @ 3.2ghz (400x8), or 1.26v under Prime Small FFT Load. Not a q6700 though, it's a q6600.

They are all different, and the mobo's make a big difference too. Also, you will often see a difference between bios voltage and cpu-z reported voltage so check that out too.

My Q6600 (G0) is 1.32v at stock, and goes to 3.44ghz absolute maximum at 1.56v. The temps never go above 55c even with prime 95's maximum temp test.

Its 3.25, not 3.0.

Secondly, all Q6700's have different Vid's even though they are all GO's. My Vid is 1.325v, I've seen some as low as 1.2v. You probably have a 1.2xx therefore you can run 1.31v with an overclock while my stock vid is higher than that.

400x8, 356x9, interesting. I've not seen any good overclocks on these processors with a 10x multiplier. Everyone opts for the higher fsb and lower multiplier.

I'm really happy at 3.25ghz (360x9). I'd be a little happier at 3.4 but right now my temps wont allow that. I'm not sure what kind of temps these processors are good for but I'm hitting 60c in prime95. I've been running 2 days now and its totally stable.

The fan controller on my Core Contact Freezer is defective and it only spins at 700rpm. Its supposed to hit 2000rpm, so when I get a my replacement fan controller I think I'm gonna be really happy with my temps :)

Thanks for the input fellas.

In response to your temps, they're already decent. The max for these processors is 71c for any length of time. So basically if you hit 70-71c in prime but go no higher after about 10min, it's acceptable for 24/7 use. Reason being is no other program you are going to run is going to stress the processor like prime does.

Hope you can get he OC you want once you repair your fan controller. Also, 1.4v for everyday use is fine, provided temps are still within spec.

My Q6600 ran at 3.0 GHz with the stock cooler at VID with an FSB boost to 333 MHz. and 3.6 GHz with a TRUE at 1.42 volts and load temps of 61 - 66 C.
