Here is my set-up...

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 (Already purchased)

MOBO: Asus T-M4A78TE 790GX (Already purchased)

RAM: G.Skill F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK 2X2Gb DDR3

HDD: 500Gb WD Caviar Blue (Already purchased)

CD/DVD Burner: Sony Optiarc Black

Case: NZXT Apollo Black

I plan on using the on board graphics card for now since the build is mainly for casual use, though I want the PSU to be able to support a card if I want to install one later.

I had been looking at the Rosewill green series 700W but I've been reading bad things about the company. Though the PSU has a good New Egg rating.

Ideally I'm looking in the 500-600W range since I read that the psu's run better when run at around a 50% load. Correct me if I'm wrong there.

So what do you guys think would be a suitable psu?

Much Thanks in advance.

I would recommend a Corsair VX450, unless you think you will add a power hungry video card such as GTX285. In that case go with the 550W.

Also, regarding multiple 12V rails, does it matter?

I've read that it's better to go with a quality single rail unit. Would a dual rail supply that stated 25A per rail suffice?

Like that one for instance.

On New Egg they have the 650 on sale for the same price as the 550, would going higher hurt anything?

Just to update/close this I went for the 650W corsair since it was the same price as the 550W. Since this is my first build I want to make sure it's as future proof as possible.

Thanks Animal.

On a good quality PSU the number of rails doesn't matter.

The 650 corsair is an excellent PSU (though somewhat overkill for your setup). You shouldn't have any problems with it.

@ cjl: Yeah, but I was wanting something in the 500-600 range and the 650 at new egg was the exact same price as the 550. It atleast gives me room to build upon.

@ theAnimal: I guess it doesn't matter much now since I went with the single rail....But I was worried with the whole thing about making sure each rail had enough amps and properly distributing the load....etc.

Doesn't matter since you can't move the connectors to a different rail. The PSU designers take care of the load distribution.
