If I were going to buy an old Asus motherboard off of Ebay, to build a system for my kids...which Asus would you get that has withstood the test of time? the standard bearer. I'd prefer a p4, socket 478 but am open to all ideas. thanks!

The P4P800-E Deluxe is an excellent motherboard.

hey, thanks for the tip! how do you feel about the P4S800DX ?

Personally I'd stay away from it because of the SIS chipset. Unlike the P4P800-E, I don't know how well it runs Vista or Windows 7. What OS will you install and what will your kids do with the PC?

I thought SIS was a good chipset? No? Used to be for the p4S533

I'll be running Vista at first, 7 eventually. They're pretty young, so most likely they'll just be using it for the internet -- pbskids.org and that type of stuff.

Maybe, but I'm not familiar with it. I know that the P4P800-E runs Vista fine with 2 GB of memory. You asked which one is the best and I believe that the P4P800-E meets that criteria. Visit Newegg and read the reviews about each motherboard you're interested in and then decide based on price and features. If you don't already have the CPU, GPU and memory, then an older P4 motherboard is not necessarily a good buy.
