Should I check For Dead Sectors?

I have just got a new hard drive and was wondering if it is really worth the 8hrs needed to check the whole disk (1TB) or should I not bother.

For a new retail box drive, prolly no need to check for bad sectors, however if an OEM drive, then worth performing the drive scan. Regardless, be sure to format the drive be attempting to put data on it.

For any new drive, retail or OEM, I prefer to do a full format. If it's a drive I've already had in use I just do a quick format.
