Adjusting Active Windows in Windows XP

Hey everyone, I have a question regarding running DOS programs in Windows XP. When I try running the full window version, it cuts off the end of the screen, but when I run it in a active window version, I cannot change the size of the window. Is there anywhere in Windows XP where you can change the default size of the active Window?

Dont think there is a setting, but try this

Drag one window to almost full-screen size with the mouse and
close it then. This size will be kept.

Right click on the shortcut and select properties. Make changes to the layout tab.
