Trying to buy 9800gtx+ off newegg wanting to know if my 500 watt power supply is strong enough to run this card my power supply is xion the 12v 18amps in first 2nd spot 12v 20amps time running out on getting card buying the EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP return policy is limited so dont want to buy wrong card and cant return

Which PSU EXACTLY do you have. Not all 500W are the same, and you can't simply add the 18 and 20A figures together. There should be a 12v1 and 12v2 total output listed somewhere on the casing.

If you click on the picture that has the information on it, you will see that the 12v1 and the 12v2 rails aren't to exceed 360W Doing the math (360W / 12V) the total amperage available to you is not 38A, but 30A. This should be enough to run most cards, I'd avoid the dual GPU cards like the 4870x2 and the GTX295.
Here is a review of the larger 700W PSU from the same series. Not the best. Seeing as Newegg lists it as a deactivated product, I'm guessing yours has been around for awhile. You might want to at the very least get some software readings on it before you upgrade. You wouldn't want to put in a 4870/GTX260 only to have the PSU blow.
