If this topic has been cover else where on the forums please advise.

I just read an article on a CPU's and it briefly discussed CPU stepping. Can some one show me a chart of the I7 920 stepping history if there is one? i cruised around on Intel's site and could not find a thing - I STINK! How do i know what step processor i am buying from New Egg? the product descriptions do not mention CPU stepping to my knowledge.

Thanks all.

To the best of my knowledge there are two i7 920 steppings available: C0 and D0. Information on any errata or technical differences between them is hard to come by, but there seems to an opinion held by some that the D0 stepping is more amenable to overclocking. IMHO it's hard to tell from anecdotal evidence just how significant that is...

D0 overclocks better. Etailers like Newegg, you have a 50/50 chance of getting one. If yiou want D0 buy one from Tanksguys, or ebay.

^ it's higher than 50/50, it's more like 99/1 against getting a C0.

How much of a difference is there in power consumption between the two? I know the DO is better but typically how much?
