I dunno what the deal is with these forums, every time I sign up I never get the email confirm. I've had to resign up three times already.

Anywho, after some retooling I think I'm ready to buy. This will be primarily for Avid and Adobe Video editing.

I7 920
Noctua CPU Fan
Asus P6t Deluxe
Vista Ultimate (Avid Required)
Lian Li PC-B70
Corsair 1000HX
LG Blu Burner
PNY Quadro FX3800 (Avid Again)
OCZ Gold 12Gb
WD Raptor 150 x2
WD Cav Blk 1Tb

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Well that is a very good setup...But I don't think you would require a 1000W for that setup...
A good solid 650W like the Corsair 650TX would be suffice for that setup...
And WD Raptor 150X2 ???
Do you have it or planning to buy them now???
Instead I would suggest you get a SSD if you want high performance with good efficiency...

Or have 4 WD Black in RAID 10 that would perform very well with high security to data...and you get high capacity too...

Good point, I forgot to downgrade the PSU when I changed up the mix. Saves me a hundred bucks!

I'm not sure if I need the Noctua for this setup, do you think the standard cooler for the I7 will suffice? or a cheaper one?

If I can save a little more I think I might go for the SSD. I still want to have a dedicated Raptor for media though.

Thanks a lot for your input! I'm really happy with these choices. I think I will order in the morning.

Not exactly a guide but some great don'ts.

Here's a recent build Maximum PC did with pictures. The parts are a disgrace for a site that is supposedly for enthusiasts, but the assembly bit is fine:

As an instructional video this is OK. If you are using a third-party cooler don't use that much paste:

hmm, is there some sort of special acceleration you get from the Quadro for Avid? Just wondering, because if there isn't (and it would have to be significant to justify that cost) you could do with a much cheaper 295GTX or a pair of 285's, just wondering.

It figures, as soon as I buy the non-refundable FX3800 I find a site that has the better Quadro CX for nearly half price! >.<b

I just realized how fast the shutter is on my DSLR, that pic above is with the computer on yet there's no blur on the CPU fan
