Here is my rig:
Gigabyte 965P-DS3 Rev 9
Intel Core 2 Duo 4300 1.8 Ghz
4 GB Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
XFX 8800GT 512 Alpha Dog
Western Digital Raptor 74gb
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W PSU
For months, I was running OC'ed at 3.0 GHz with no changes to voltage.
Things were great, and I had nice framerates 100+ in Warcraft, Day of Defeat Source, etc.
Recently, performance has been awful. I get 10-20 fps in WoW, and ~30 fps in DoD:S. Occasionally, it'll be so bad that I'll get 5-10 fps in WoW. I've tried everything I can think of. I removed the OC on the cpu. I've removed memory, swapped memory slots, bumped memory voltate, cpu voltage, to no avail.
If I pull out the video card, re-seat the memory, things MAY return to normal....for a period of time.
I have no idea what's causing this issue: cpu, memory, video card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if more details are needed.
When I started reading your post I thought easy, you have too much stuff in the background. Then you mentioned if you reseat your hardware things go back to normal for a bit. I dont know what would cause that.
But based on previously running great framerates and months later loosing framerates I would recommend checking your MSCONFIG file and see whats running in the background and check the services tag too. Also you can try checking your temporary files and doing a registry scan as well. Another thing I would recommend is making sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers and if you do then try uninstalling and reinstalling them.
