Ok, my frend wants to buy the xfx 8800gt alpha dog, from tigerdirect:

There it says :
THIS ITEM IS REFURBISHED

Now, does anyone here has xfx 8800gt alpha dog (from tiger direct)?
Should he get the "refurbished" xfx 8800gt from tiger direct or from other stores?

(btw he decided to get it from there because it is cheap- $84.99)

Check the warranty! I have seen these 'refurbished' cards with only 30 days warranty, not enough, not by a long way.
Spend a few dollars more and get a card with full warranty.

You can get a 4830 for the same price, and it's slightly better (equal to a 9800GT)

Agreed on the 4830, for that money snag that.

Or you can go for 4770.. that wen oc.. beats the 9800 or gts 250.. in the same price range... cheers...

You can always OC the GTS250 to beat the 4770.

4770 is better than the 4830 or 9800GT and worse than the GTS250/9800GTX or 4850

cause i found on tigerdirect xfx 9800gtx+ for 109.99 dolars.

I'll scout around the net for gts250/9800gtx+ vs hd4770

From what i'we seen, gts250 1gb ddr3 IS faster than hd4770.

But the 4770 is cheaper, based on 40nm techology, has ddr5 memory.

So i'll tell my friend to get the HD4770

The GTS250 512mb, 9800GTX+/9800GTX, and 4850 are all faster than the 4770.

You can't really compare the DDR5 in the 4770 with the DDR3 in the GTS250.

Nvidia and ATI use completely different architecture.
All high end Nvidia cards use DDR3, whereas all high end ATI cards use DDR5. ATI cards also have 3x more stream processors.

Nonetheless, Nvidia cards still perform just as good if not better than ATI cards.

Example:
GTX260 DDR3 = 4870 DDR5
GTS250/9800GTX/GTX+ DDR3 = 4850 DDR5
GTX275 DDR3 = 4890 DDR5
