Create button inactive for disk partition

Hello,
I bought a 500GB Seagate External portable HD. While trying to create more partitions using windows disk mgt there was no create option. Then I downloaded Mini Toll Partition Wizard. Even here Create partition button is inactive. Can anyone suggest.

Have you tries 'SeaTools'? (comes free with certain Seagate hard disks)

You may need to re-format the drive OR use specialized software for creating partitions. Here is a list of some software: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_disk_partitioning_software

First delete the existing partition, then create the new ones you want and use the quick format option.

How many partitions do you have? how many are you trying to create?

You can only have 4 Primary partitions, if you want more you will have to use Extended Partitions; doesn't matter what tools you use.

Partitioning one drive into two or more logical drives is not popular these days because of the low cost of HDDs. Just add another drive.
