I want to cancel cable and get directv ,My neighbor just gave me 2 brand
new never opened RCA directv tuners they both have #3 cards in them. After i
have 1 box installed by directv is there a way I can hook up those tuners
with a splitter to 2 other tv's myself? Do i have to pay a $5 accsess fee
per tuner even though i own the tuners? I am new to sat. tv so please
forgive my ignorance.

You need 1 receiver for each tv for independent viewing and you cannot split
the signal as that shorts out the receiver. You need a multiswitch to be
installed at the dish to divide the signal into four outputs to feed four
receivers if you want to watch on four different tvs.

And yes, you also have to pay the activation/fees for each of the
receivers, as that is how they make thier money.

You can split the signal AFTER a receiver and send whatever channel
that receiver is set for to more than one TV. It's just from the dish
to the receiver(s) that only a multiswitch will work.

D
Thanks for clearing that up..Makes more sense to me that you SHOULD be able
to split the signal and send it to another TV.
