Conflict

Hello,
will an IDE hard drive conflict with a SATA hard drive if put into our DELL Optiplex 380 tower? I don't want to mess up our computer.. we have Windows 7 installed

It's not clear which drive you are adding. Assuming you are adding the SATA as it's newer, keep in mind all SATA drives are master only.
After instalation get into bios and make sure your original drive (PATA?) is set as first HDD boot drive, save settings and exit to restart.
In Windows go to Disk Managment, initiate the drive, create a new partition/s and quick format.
