I paid for downloads from WalMart and while they play fine on my home pc they
do not play on my SMT5600 Windows media player. Each song says it is a
protected file and asks for a license to be downloaded. When I ask it to
download it says I already used the license. Any ideas on getting these to
play?

Sync the files to the device using WMP, rather than copying them directly.
Also I believe you'll have trouble unless you are using the same version of
WMP on both the desktop and device.

Thanks Tony. I am not sure how to sync WMP. Do you have a link I could use to
learn?

I don't have a link, but you can't really go wrong. Hook your device up to
the PC, click the Sync tab in WMP 10 on your PC, select the songs to sync in
the left pane, select your device and destination folder in the right hand
pane, click "Start Sync".

Don't bother. With WMP 9 on the SMT you have the potential of moving file
using the desktop media player, but only to main memory, not to any memory
cards. I expect you won't want to waste the meager RAM you have on music.
Not until MP10 on both the desktop and portable device do you get support
for license transfer to flash (or removable) memory.
You best bet is to curt an audio CD of the songs, assuming Wally lets you,
and reripping them to unprotected files. Then you can do what you want with
them.

I thought the SMT5600 shipped with WMP10, but if that's not the case, then
listen to Sven, BobL.

Whoops, my bad. Listen to Tony. The 5600 does indeed come with MP10. You do
need to use MP10 on the desktop to get the license transfer capability to
flash cards though. At that point it is pretty self explanatory. There is a
tab at the top that says sync.
I still suggest burning and re-ripping, unless of course your entire library
is WAM downloads. Do figure out how to back up the licenses though.
