Ok, that what I have so far.

Comments? Concerns? Did I mess anything up? Get anything right?

I can't comment on your build without knowing what it's for.

The PSU needs changing though.

Oh, damn, accidentally edited out that in a copy/paste.

Its a Workbench computer for 3d modeling, animation, video editing, and so on.

Price range is about $2000 - $3500

Well the base setup is very good for the above tasks you had mentioned...
But there are a few things that I feel you can look into...

1. RAM - Have read that when you populate all the 6 slots on the X58 mobo, the speed is automatically lowered...So going with 1333MHz over a 1600MHz RAM wont make any difference...But the difference is just about $25 so its upto you...

2. SSD - Well am sure not many would suggest SSD for its price premium...
But if you are fixed on getting one, change the SSD...that RiData has many bad reviews and there is a major problem that its sometimes freezes...

Get any of these -

But another alternative to get the performance of SSDs along with high capacity would be using RAID...
So if you are comfortable with it, it would save you cash as well as increase capacity...

And like Proximon said change the PSU...
That PSU is good but not the best out there...

haven't heard of your psus name..

go for a corsair, antec or check this site out for known and efficient psus..

hmm....... thats odd of tiger direct not to offer an OEM version of that CPU. you always save some money on them because there is no fan which would have been good for the OP in this case because he is getting an aftermarket fan

Wish i had a 30" monitor...

^don't we all :)

but then we'd need high-end gfx cards and for only $39,000 more we could get a QuadHD 40" TV.

Hm, thanks for the replies.

With the idea in mind that using all 6 RAM slots will actually slow things down, does anyone have a way to get to 12GB ram without doing so?

Thanks in advance.

LOL unless you can find some cheap 4-8GB sticks of ram. why do you need so much ram anyway. that's overkill for a gaming PC

Reply to captaincharisma

Not a gaming rig. Its a CAD, 3d, animation, video editing rig. With the Quadro it wont be able to play games anyway.

Hey man, have you heard of Windows 7 RC? You should totally get that instead of Vista...by the time you will need to get Vista, it will be cheaper ^_^

Bah I had typed a response last night that must have been lost.

Still, you got some good advice. The OCZ Vertex series is indeed the way to go in SSDs. The only better SSDs are Intel and cost quite a bit more.

The decrease in actual performance with a DDR3 frequency of 1333 is minimal to nothing. The extra RAM is what you need, not the minor frequency bump that is ONLY important to overclockers.

If you find lower latency 1333 RAM, it will more than negate the loss:

Two of those should do it.
