Hello All,

I have a Gigabyte G31 Motherboard. I understand that the Onboard GMA 3100 doesn't support Dx 10. However, if a i add a PCI x16 graphics card with Dx 10 support, will that suffice???

Also, can anyone suggest any alternative Mobos that have Dx10 onboard support and in around the same price range.

Thanks in Advance.

A 4670 512MB would suit well if you don't have much cash and have a generic/weak 400W power supply.

9600GT requires a 6-pin PCI-E connector but is a bit more powerful than the 4670. Though I'd recommend at least a 500W psu if generic, 400W if branded (Corsair, Silverstone, Termaltake, etc).

4770 would be faster than the 9600GT, that is if you could stretch your budget.

What are the kind of games do you play and at what resolution?

When you put in a discrete graphics card, it should disable the onboard and use only the graphics card.

Any G45 based board should be DX10 capable, but it would always be a heck of a lot slower than a discrete card.

Thanks amnotanoobie for your quick reply.

Thanks in advance.

:) .. The 4670 seems to right within my budget ..

As for the Games, well i haven't updated myself in a long time :p .. But the titles i have in mind are Quake Wars, Crysis, Devil May Cry, Call of Duty Modern Warfare at modest resolutions :D

You could take at one review here:

Though the games only include: Fallout 3, HAWX, Far Cry 2, etc.

It runs on medium @ 1280x1024, but you'd be able to turn it up to high if you reduce the resolution.
