Max memory support?

Last response: in Memory

I'm curious to know if a motherboard/chipset (example Intel X48) has a max memory support of 8GB does that also include the graphics cards RAM as well as the standard DIMM RAM?

EDIT: Rephrase, is video ram inclusive of the "Max memory supported" or is the "Max memory supported" only regarding standard DIMMs.

nope only system memory is the limit

So just to confirm max memory supported is only regarding the DIMMs and that any memory on the video card is irrelevant. The only place where it matters for example could be on a 32-bit OS where I could have 2x 2GB DDR2 DIMMs and a graphics card which has 1GB of GDDR5 the OS would show a total of 3GB of RAM?
