PCIe 1.0 just has 16 1-bit lanes (1x16) with 250mb/s per lane
PCIe 2.0 doubles that (2x16) which brings the bandwidth per lane up to 500mb/s

I don't think going from PCIe 1.0 to 2.0 will make much of a difference, because 250mb/s per lane @ 16 lanes on PCIe 1.0 is still a lot of bandwidth.

No performance difference between the two. I remember reading somewhere, didn't save the link, that the 4870X2 barely reaches the bandwidth limits of a x16 PCIe 1.0 slot.

I've got a 4870 running in a x16 PCIE 1.0 slot with nary a hiccup, burp, or fart playing all the latest titles; World @ War, Crysis, BioShock, Modern Warfare, etc.

yeah u shouldn't have any problems with PCIe x16, maybe with the upcoming cards but not now
