After a lot of searching... I tried the cdgone route, I tried the registry route, and the Windows Fix route. Nothing worked. I just installed this (http://download.cnet.com/dvdram-win2k-5025-en-zip/3001-...) from CNet and it fixed it instantly! I didn't even have to restart, I just refreshed my device manager. Goodluck!

I tried to fix this problem using automatic Microsoft Fix It program but it did not help. After that I decided not to use automatic function and selected "Let me fix it myself": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116/en-gb Scroll down and follow instructions according to your operating system (mine is Vista). I did it, deleted some items in registry as written and now CD/DVD rom is working perfectly. Good luck!
