I just built my own computer, and I understand there are probably 100 threads about this, but the stock fan I got with my Core 2 Quad seems to be running at the same speed, no matter what I'm doing on the computer. It's the loudest fan in the case, without the noise it would be virtually silent. I adjusted a setting in the BIOS where the OS takes over the fan speed, but it didn't do anything. It's running at 1900+RPM, even when I put the computer in the "Low Power State" mode on Vista. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Go in the bios power options. You can set this for standby:
S3 - Suspend to RAM (context saved to RAM)
In this state, your PC in standby and all fans, hard drivers and other devices are powered down into a sleep state. Power consumption is less than Five Watts.
