Hi I'm Steve and glad to join the experts community. I seek your advice. I have a powering issue on my comp. Whenever I power on my puter, it turns on for a split second (fans start, LEDS light, etc.) but then turns off instantly for like 2 seconds the powers on again and stays on this time. My specs are below.
Motherboard: ECS P45T-A
PS: BFG GS-550 550 watts
CPU: Core 2 Extreme X6800
Fan Heatsink: Scythe Katana III
Video Card: XFX GeForce 9800+ Black Edition
Memory: PCI Turbo 2x1GB DDRII 667
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 1200 120GB IDE
OS: XP Home Edition SP2
Case: Ahanix Platinum XP with 90 mm fans
All stock settings no overclock.
The temp on the CPU on Idle is 33 degrees as Everest reports so the CPU can't be overclocking upon initial boot. Now what I've noticed is this power on-off-on issue only happens when I switch off the power strip the computer is plugged in. If I Ieave the strip on, it just powers on the first time everytime with no problems of the "shutting down then turning on" as mentioned. It seems if the current is cut from the power supply by switching off the strip, this problem occurs but if left on there's no problem. Is this a PS issue or something in the BIOS? I'm a compulsive dude, I know most of you guys leave the power strip on but I'm always afraid of catching fire so I always turn it off. However this powering issue didn't happen on my old ASRock 775 DualVSTA mobo.

What do you mean by "it turns off instantly? No lights nor fan spinning?
It turns on for a split second (fans spin and lights on for a split second) then turns off: no lights or fan spinning for two seconds, then turns on again and power stays on this time.

Tried that one. Checked all the headers and they're all planted firm. I'm thinking of getting a higher wattage PS if the one I have might be struggling. I want to hear all your opinions though.
I remember my P35 board doing that but only when I changed a setting for overclock. I would check your bios settings to make sure they are @ default values if not intending to overclock. There could be a setting that is causing your system to not boot properly and making it go into default but until you change the setting and save it anytime you shut down your system it will read the incorrect setting.

Relax...there are alot of mobos that do this when first powered.
I believe its a PSU check of some sort before the system starts up.
My gigabyte does this too if I pull the plug on it.
Why do you shut the power strip off in the first place? I only do that if I'm going away for some time....
Anyway hope this helps....JQ

Ahh I missed the power strip part. Yea that is pretty normal and I think both my AMD and Intel rigs do that when all the power has been removed from the system like that.
