Im thinking about upgrading my CPU from a 9800GTX to a EVGA Hydro 295, its gonna be pricey but its a much needed upgrade. Just a few questions if anyone knows the answer to. Will my PSU be enough to handle the card? I have a Rosewill 600w PSU (link below). It has 2 x 6pin connectors and a 8pin, but the 8pin is for CPU and i heard that useing the adapters they give you for molex's shouldn't be used. Another question would be if this card would be bottle necked by my CPU. Im running a Phenom II 940 @ 3.5GHz. thanks!

What resolution are you using? why did you buy a sub 16xx/1xxx graphics card in the first place?

1. No, it will not be bottlenecked by ur CPU.

2. No, your PSU can't run a GTX295. It is basically two GTX260s, so you need a
750watt PSU or at least a very good 650watt PSU. Rosewill PSUs range from decent to crap since they use rebranded stuff.

3. I am confused @ rewindlabs' answer?

CPU is NOT the GPU that you have listed. mind went all weird reading that.

Blue screen's answer is best...took words out of my mouth.

I too am curious as to what rewindlabs meant as well.

don't forget you have to add 150w(providing it's a good one, not thermaltake) for the water cooling system so you'd be looking at a 900w+ PSU.

I said...why did he buy a graphics card meant to perform its best at 1440x900 or 1280x1024 and below resolutions...

It doesn't give off that whole thinking ahead conception or that he did much research....

Possibly because it's a prebuilt system.
Also, the 9800GTX performs very well at 1680x1050, unless Crysis is your main benchmark :) .

1. There is a typo, i ment GPU and not cpu.

2. I have a 9800GTX cuz i had a 8800, traded it in cuz 9800 was cheaper at the time, and got a 9800 + $60

3. im on a 720P hdtv cuz im gonna be a freshman in college and im gonna use it as a tv/monitor to save room. I had a 22" LCD monitor before my TV.

4. anyone know any good 800W ish PSU's that will work for this because i dont know exactly what im looking for.

5. anyone have any idea of a price range of this card, and if the 285 version would be better for the price difference?

Go name brand for PSU... Silverstone is very good, as well as corsair. NEVER !!! Get a rosewill/ generic. They will kill your wallet, maybe even your PC.

Ok thanks alot, is getting a PSU thats silver or bronze rated mean anything? Quality? And i really like the PSU's with the option to only add the cords you need or use, is this a new option and not alot out, or is there a downfall to them?

WAIIIIIITTTT!!!!!

Your on a 720P TV!!!!!....do you even know the resolution of it? .....the 9800gtx+ would be worth keeping....

If your 720p tv is something like 1280x720 or 1360x768 that the 295 would be a huge waste....

The resolution is 1360X768, and i dont think it would be that big of a waste because i cant run high graphic demand games such as crysis on maxed settings, and when your tv has 30,000:1 ratio i want it to look awesome. I think ill go with the 285 if you think its that HUGE of a waste, its just that right now my GPU is old, overheats, and if i have watercooling i might as well use it on my GPU.

Have you even looked at benchmarks....if you think you need to max out crysis :sarcastic: sure go ahead and waste the cash on a 285....i wouldn't buy a card in the 200$ range for that resolution :pfff:

Even the lower clocked 8800GTS 512 will easily max out Crysis with 2x AA. I'd only suggest a GTX 295 if you were using a 1900x 1200 or above monitor.
