I tried to overclock my intel core 2 duo E8400 @ 3,00 GHZ.my motherboard is gigabyte G41M-Combo with DDR 3 1333MHz (bottleneck to 1033MHz).i increased the FSB from 333 to 350,multiplier = 9.0 at volt which is my default voltage. the new frequency would be 3.15 GHZ but when i tried to restart my computer it refused to.i can't even get to the BIOs after doing this.i heard that someone overclocked the E8400 to 4GHZ but why can't i . did i do something wrong .

Hi..I have an E8400 and a Gigabyte ep45-ud3l mobo and I have had it oc'd to 3.20 with no problems...
What are your system specs..mobo,ram,psu,video,etc....
Also, what is your cpu voltage at and is your ram tied to your fsb frequency?

Is this a GA-G41M-ES2L .....
If it is then it only supports DDR2 memory...

when i increased the cpu frequency to 350mhz automaticly memory frequency increased 1033 to 1120mhz .my cpu vcore voltis 1.45v and cpu termination volt is 1.20v. my system "intel core 2 duo E8400 3.00GHz , Motherboard Gigabyte GA-G41M Combo ,2GB DDR3 1333MHz ram ,Nvidia Geforce 9500GT 512MB Graphics, 500GB SATA Hard disk, 24X DvD Writer, CCVIO 1802B Casing, 19"LG lcd monitor"

johnnyq, there's a big difference between a P45 board and a G41 board.
Second, the G41M-Combo will accept either DDR2 or DDR3 RAM.

The reason that you will not be able to reach anywhere near 4 GHz is because you cannot push a G41 FSB past 350 - 360 MHz. Even if you do everything exactly right, I doubt if you can get much past 3.3 GHz. Something like an E6500 or E7500 with their 266 MHz FSB freq is a much better candidate for overclocking in a G41 board.

I have an E6500 (266 MHz X 11) in a G41M-ES2L. The board will run at 352 MHz, but it flat out dies at 353 MHz. So the chip which will run past 4 GHz in my P35-DS3P "only" runs at 3.87 GHz.

You may be able to squeeze out a little more performance by going into the BIOS and decreasing the System Memory Multiplier.

I've had good luck overclocking with G41 and DDR2. Got a Wolfdale Celeron (E3200) 2.4 running at 3ghz, it's not my computer so I didn't try to push it to see what it could do, I just set it to 3ghz from the start and it's been a couple years now.

Oh and 3.2ghz from a 3ghz E8400 on a P45, I really wouldn't call that an overclock. If your not running 4ghz, your doing something wrong.
