Which graphics card for my rig?

I have a core2duo 6600 (the first version) overclocked @ 2.9ghz on stock cooler, 2 gb ram, p5k MB, ati x1950pro graphics, 19" crt (usually running @ 1280x1024 but it can go higher), win xp, 500W power supply.

I'd like to upgrade my graphics, but I'd like something that would reasonably be able to run games for some time in the future too, possible even if I upgrade my display to a 22" or 24" LCD. I'm planning to go to win7 64bit and 4GB of Ram in the next 6 months or so. What's the best card that won't be cpu limited, and still be reasonably valid for some time? Of course I could also upgrade my cpu at a later date to overcome the cpu limitation to some degree.

Thanks you for your help,

the 4770 or 4850 for your current set up will work just fine

a 4870 1GB or GTX 260 for a 22-24" LCD
