what's better for playing Dungeon Siege 1(which is a single-core game), the AMD Athlon LE-1660 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103296), or the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036)?

I know that it's an incredibly old game and that both would tear it up, but i'm just curious. Thanks.

Even in single threaded apps the E8500 would beat that AMD chip. I would not waste my money on either. E8500 is a nice chip but I just cannot recommend S775 cpus anymore since i7 came out and Ph II was released.

with logain... the intel would be better, but since the i7 and Phenom II are out, i wouldn't by either of them either. hell, you can get yourself a nice AM3 Phenom II setup for pretty cheap. and if you have the money to blow, go Intel! personally, i think Price VS Performance, AMD is a MUCH better choice but if you are someone who has just a lot of extra money in your pockets, grab the intel. they have been outperforming AMD since what? 2004?

775 is not going to be phased out as quickly as people think it is. i3/i5 just might do this, but it's not out yet so, it's not for certain. If it is that good, then I'm going to be one of the first people to get one. i7 is going to be phased out quicker if you think about it if this happens. If not, 775 is going to be around for a while...

i7 so far has not offered much more for the price difference. Especially since the core 2 duo's overclock the way they do.

Even then, this only brings price drops down a lot more making the e8xxx more appealing then it already is.

i7 wont be "phased" out per say. Possibly LGA1366. But there will be a i7 on LGA1156 as well.

But take a 5GHz Core 2 Duo, vs a 4GHz Core i7 with 2+ GPUs and the Core i7 will stomp on it pretty easily.

hey, you can put as many gpus in your system as you want. you can overclock your cpu as far as you can get it. the problem is, there is always going to be something else that will bottleneck the system... me, i am an AMD person myself... always have, always will. even when AMD merged with ATI (that was a bad day for me...) i will still stick with AMD.

That's what I meant, but i9 is rumored to be on that socket so the 1366 i7's were really just entry level cpu's.

Link?

Why? ATI is better...

Right now is good to debate about cpu's. It's really the only thing that seems to be progressing at a proper pace.

Ssd's are a joke for the price.

Graphics progression is almost next to nothing.

Regular drives are somewhat catching up to raptors.

Motherboards have stopped offering new features after esata was introduced. Nothing really new on 1366. Looks this way for 1156 also.

AMD. They went crazy with their sockets although they have some decent stuff finally in a long time. LOL! That's all I got to say about that.

Psu's is the same thing nearly.

Windows... HAHAHAHAHAHA! I'll comment when I get a grip and stop laughing...

Haha, I am just not a fan of ATI. Specs wise, they make some good, solid products. The few times I used ATI, I just had some serious issues with them. So I've gone NVIDIA and stayed with them. Unless they totally screw things up (like AMD did when they let Intel play the catch up and surpass game) I will stay with them.

SSDs are a joke for the price. Also consider the fact that SSD has a limited amount of writing that you can do to the drive until it becomes worthless. Granted, would you hit that max before a normal drive died? Who knows... look at the way Windows is constantly writing *** to your drive...

Speaking of Windows, dear God, I am right there laughing with you!...

AMD, honestly, Price/Performance, I still think they are better then Intel. However, I would be a liar if I told you I would never buy Intel. I just don't have the money to constantly upgrade Intel CPUs and system boards... They make good, solid stuff though. Give them that!

Graphics progression is at a standstill and it will probably be there for quite some time.

So... for the most part, I totally agree with you. I think when it comes down to the AMD vs Intel war, it really comes down to personal preferance. I won't hate anyone for having their own opinions on whats better. :)

Yeah, I was going to get an AMD because they had a decent cheap offering that was at stock but I knew this before I thought about buying it. Intel almost had nothing to compete with at this pricing.

The e5200 was just too hard to not get though... Seriously... And the new stepping does like 3.8 ghz on stock voltage? i3/i5 has to be really good to phase core 2 duo and 775 out. If not, were going to see it for quite a while. I previously had a socket 478 p4 so you really don't have to upgrade all that often. I'd still be on it if the damn thing didn't totally break on me...

Quad core and hexa cores. LOL! I can't wait to see the final benchmark scores for i3/i5.
