Ok, so I was checking the official specifications on ati.com for both the HD4870 and HD4850 and there is absolutely no difference at all in specifications, only the PSU requirements are different. How is this possible? There 4870 must have some advantage iver the 4850, right?
the compare pages do not show you the number of SPUs, clock speed, or memory speed which are 800, 750, 900 vs 800, 625, 993. Also 4870 uses GDDR5 which is equivilant to a 4x multiplier on the memory clock compared to the 2x from the 4850's GDDR3
Which is pretty easy if you switch between the 2 Firefox tabs and looking at the same location (checking for differences in the text). Both pages list exactly the same information and it includes, as far as I can see, all the information.
yes but they dont list the clock speeds and technically yes they are the same GPU, however the difference between the clocks and the memory types is what sets them apart
as hunter said it's the clock speed and memory that it the difference.
If you use the compare option then click the details button it will show clock speeds. Or you can use newegg to compare them which may be better cause while every card has a min speed set my manufacturer some manufactures chose to exceed those specs.
