I have dual 8800 GTX in SLI in my Dell 720 XPS and I am looking to see if I replace these "older" cards with dual BFG GeForce 9800 GT Video Card - 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, (2) Dual Link DVI, HDTV, VGA Support. Reason is the card drive keeps give a none responding error and I think it is due to over heating of just being older. I don't do any heavy gaming except for C&C Red Alert 3 and Left4Dead and Photoshop. I can get two of these for 200 bucks and hopefully put these errors behind me. Any thoughts? Thanks
Do it if you want, wouldnt see any performance increase, might actually see a bit of a decrease. If you wanted to you could get a GTX 275 for around $235 then maybe get another one later.
The switch will be a bit of a downgrade in performance but other than that it is OK.
Before doing so try some maintenance (if not done already): Clean the fluff out of the fans and heatsinks, both for the cards and CPU, this may be the problem.
