Help,

I have WMP10 on PC and WMP9 on Pocket PC with 2003PPC OS. I use to be able
to have music files in WMA format compress down automatically when syncing
with pocket pc. It is not doing it now. What do I need to look for.
Pocket PC is an HP Ipaq 5455.

Thanks!

Will

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your help. My device lists three items, the ipaq, file store,
and storage card. I would like to be able to save to the storage card, but
a song copies down to about 7k and it's cutoff. Also, I don't have the
Setup Sync or Format Storage Media option in WMP10 on desktop. Am I still
missing something?

When I save to the ipaq itself, it works fine, but would rather not to have
to deal with moving the files to the storage card.

Thanks again for your help!

Best,

W<

Hi Tony,

I did some more experimenting today, and I think I understand what's going
on. When MP3 files are converted, they can be complressed to the level I
select. However WMA files are not converted to the reduced bit rate as
desired.

So, back to the question, MP3 or WMA???

Thanks,

W<

I have no clue why you don't see the Setup sync option, or why it's cutting
off tracks when you copy to the storage card. Do you have "Copy protect
music" checked in the Copy settings of your desktop WMP? If so, try
unchecking it, WMP9 on the PPC doesn't support saving copy-protected tracks
to storage cards. There's at least one knowledgeable MVP that reads this
group, so hopefully you'll get more help from that quarter soon.

Well I'm not a big fan of WMP, so I'd say MP3 - that frees you up to use a
different player in the future, once you get tired of WMPs quirks and
deficiencies ;). Personally I use the Core player and a fast card reader,
but of course if you really want the playlist and sync features of WMP (if
you can get them to work), or you prefer to buy WMA downloads rather than
CDs, that won't work for you.
