Okay,
I gave my friend the wrong RAM (SDRAM128MB) Instead of DDR-400 1GB. Well, when he was putting it in, he obviously short-circuted something or blew up some part of the power supply because I/He can smell electrical smoke. It powers up and everything, just no signal to the monitor and no start up "beep". If anyone can help please respond!
His specs are: (Forgive the oldness)
A Gigabyte GA-8IE800 (Rev 1.1)
2 DDR 400 512mb RAM
A 9600XT ATI Radeon/Can use 5500FX NVIDIA
A 300WATT PSU
2 DVD drives
A 2.8ghz P4 478 socket CPU
And a 60GB HDD
Checked, the Mobo is fine, and I can still smell it when i unplug the mobo, will i have to buy another PSU for my friend? And what will i need to power that system with room for "Upgrades"?
I wonder how huge is that 'room for upgrades' that you want. For now, the system may run with a decent 400w like a cx400. If you want to upgrade soon, you could opt to buy a 550w psu like a vx550. That would cater any single card gpu out there without worries.
