How many of you love logitech mice but hate the noisy, clunky, and cheap feeling logitech scroll wheel. Well I have solution that may be ghetto, and and DEFINITETLY VOID THE WARRANTY. If you're not careful, you can also break the mouse or even lose springs. So, try only at your own risk.

For the mx300 optical.

Remove single screw on the bottom. Gently pull and lift the top of mouse off. Do this very gently as the front of the mouse is fitted snugly at the front as well holding springs waiting to get lost and is also corded to the bottom. You'll see the scroll wheel assembly. Carefully note the placment of the two springs, otherwise you may have a hard time reassembling it! The L-shaped hinge spring is the spring that adds resistance to the wheel button (not scroll). The other weirdly shaped one is the spring that adds tension and that erratic click when you scroll. The wheel assembly consists of two parts: the wheel and the axle/spring holder. Gently lift the whole wheel assembly being careful to hold the springs lest the pop off into oblivion. Once the wheel is off, remove the L-shaped spring and put aside. Then hold down the other spring and remove the wheel from the axle. Remove the spring from the axle carefully. You can bend this spring to lower tension as it hits the inside of the wheel (do this gradually). You could even remove the spring if want a totally click free wheel (not suggested). To get rid of the erratic clicking sound, place a very small bit of masking tape (or other material. be creative!) around part of the spring (head) that hits the wheel. You may need to tweak here and there to get everything as you like (tension and noise). To test the wheel feel, reassembly the wheel and place back into the wheel holder and scroll away. Finally, when everything is to your liking, reassembly everything in reverse order. Simple. Care should be taken in assembling everything as the fitting is rather tight.

Now you have a wheel according to your likes. Note, the mechanism is such that you may not be able to get that fast and loose scroll like that on the ms blue mouse.

Quality is better than name brand, even regarding beloved AMD.
