How to transfer from vista to xp

I am currently using a computer running windows vista. I will be getting a better computer that has windows xp. I would like to transfer as much as I can (files, contacts, programs) from vista to xp. Do I need anything other than the transfer cable to accomplish this? The vista computer has the easy transfer program on it. Does the xp computer that I am transferring to need to have it installed as well? Or, should i just install vista on the computer running xp and THEN transfer? Thanks.

Install the Easy Transfer program on XP and that should allow you to freely transfer files and settings. I'd just get a network switch, plug both into it, match workgroup names and share folders.
