I recently built a desktop and the cpu used is a AMD Phenom II X2 550. All the parts are seating in a CM 690 case. For some odd reason, my cpu under BIOS shows the temp between 45-50 degrees Celsius. Under prime 95 for 20 minutes the temp is at steady 67 degrees Celsius according to Everest. Those temps are too high even for a nicely ventilated case

Which aftermarket would you recommend for a budget of $50.

I would say that your temps may be OK, since is is hotter than usual. If your system is stable, then I would not worry too much. Maybe the probe are innacurate too. If you are sure the heat sink is correctly installed and make good contact with the CPU, I would carefully touch the heatsink with my finger to confirm the temp. for comparaison, the human body temp is 37 celcius. water boil at 100 celcius.
