Recently purchased an INNO3d gts 250 512mb

My system is:

e5200 @ 3.0 (1.28125vcore - bios) same prob at stock clocks
2gb ddr2 800ram
250gb x2 hdd
dvd ram
ga-eg31m-s2
19inch LG 1440x900 (use converter as monitor is vga connector)

When playing demanding titles like far cry 2 and mass effect i notice a hazyness and black bars which "roll" down the screen. It isn't noticeable at all in crysis

1) I have a 460W psu which puts out 34a on the 12v rails. I know its not a PSU problem as the shop I got it from tried on a 650W psu, same problem - also bro has a power hungry 90nm athlon 64 x2 and an 8800gtx which sucks power and his card and whole system is stable

2) I know it isnt a faulty card, as they tried with ANOTHER gts and a 9600gt, same problem both cards.

I fear it may be electrostatic interferance, which I don't know how to resolve.

It may also be a heat issue, I have just downloaded the EVGA Precision app, and will try that now

Any other suggestions?

thanks for swift reply rewind.

When I was at the PC shop and they tested different psu's gfx cards etc we had same problem.

So its not a prob unique to my house/electricity connection. Also bro's dont have same problem and they in the same house.

I tried the EVGA tool, with fan at 100%, same story. When I watched temps, even at stock fan speeds temps didnt exceed 60 C, which can be attributed to the Freezer DHT technology I imagine. Apparently the heat pipes contain a gel which when heated, moves around to cool the card. Dunno how true that is, thats what sales dude told me.

My gut, and process of elimination suggest an interferance problem, perhaps because mobo is mATX, and thus the components are all just too close together?

If this is the case, Im not going to replace the mobo - mainly coz i'm a student and cant afford to lol but also because it isnt THAT much of a hinderance, its just there and irritating if I pay attention to it.

Is there any way to 'shield' or isolate the GFX card from an electromagnetic perspective?

Yeah i was throwing emphasize to the last post because it seems to be the problem...you may be onto something...

My 260 GTX system is on matx atm and that could be adding to my interference problems as well...although i have another matx system with a 9800gtx+ that has zero problems...

Best of luck with your problem

It sounds to me like this might be a 60hz vs 75hz problem. Have you Checked in your Nvidia control panel to see if your card is set to 60hz. Then check to see if your Monitor is set to 60hz. The monitor sounds like it might be a few years old with just a vga connection and may be set to 75hz. This issue used to show itself more on CRT but has been known to happen on LCD's

It's your 9600 Gt being maxed out and it's sputtering and coughing up artifacts. Play the game without AA and slightly lower settings and if the problem goes away then you know your is reaching its limits. So it may not be a heat issue but more like a "lag" issue if you have all the settings on highest and AA turned on.

My olf 8800 GTS 320 mb did the same thing on Crysis and when I turned off AA and played on medium, the problems went away.

My card is a GTS 250 512. The shop I bought it from tried another GTS250 and a 9600gt both new, out the box cards. Both had the issue.

And the GTS isnt struggling, in Far Cry 2 its getting about 55-60fps all the time and Mass Effect solid 60.

I know what the artifacts are - its more like - interferance. Not a problem being rendered but rather being 'applied' afterwards by the interferance. Mobo is mATX. . . Im thinking all the components all too close together
