When connecting a DVI->HDMI cable from my Nvidia 9400 GT video card DVI output (no HDMI output is provided) to my Hannspree monitor HDMI input, I get very loud static from the internal speakers of the Hannspree.

Any thoughts on how to get rid of the static?

Do you have a SPDIF cable connected to the motherboard or sound card?
