So a couple of weeks ago I was helping my parents take our 2 crappy computers to make a crap-mediocre one, because both were flat out horrible. We also have a semi-new desktop from dell which is 3 years old and I'm primary using my laptop now for web surfing.
But I've really wanted to get back into playing some computer games mostly Rts's and a few first person shooters and well we don't have anything that can do that at the moment. So I've become pretty interested in building my own as a sort of self graduation present. hopefully for around $1000ish and probably going to do a least a mild OC. I don't need a monitor or keyboard or mouse at the moment as I'll probably just steal them off another computer, hopefully buy one just for this build.
Here are my (probably poorly chosen) components I've been researching
CPU:$279 Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Retail
I was thinking going for a q 9550 but I figured since I want to make this build last pretty long that I better go with the lower end of the new technology over the best of the old

Video Cards: I'm sort of stuck between these two
$239 with rebate DIAMOND 4890PE51GSB Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card - Retail

Well that's about it, Please any input would be good even if you totally tell me that even one of these products are stupid. I've read alot of forums from other people and I think that this list is at least somewhat educated.
Minor improvement: use the 640 gig black WD hard drive . Faster .
Mb looks expensive . Do you need all the features? esp 3 way sli? . You definitely wont if you buy the ATI gfx card . Reccomend asus or gigabyte . newegg
Both gfx cards are good but I prefer the ati Catalyst control center . Easy to make direct adjustments Either would be fine though for a system with a 22 - 24 inch monitor . If you monitor is smaller then both are over kill .
buy from newegg cheaper
