Hi guys,
I am building a new desktop, I plan to use it for 3D animation, using primarily 3DS Max. In addition I need to be able to use OpenGL. Is it worth it to shell out money for a workstation card, or can I use a consumer one. Furthermore, any recommendations on which card to get?

It depends on how much money you can make by doubling the graphical performance. Consumer cards work fine, though I hear sli doesn't mix well with 3dsmax.

Now is kind of a bad time to be buying the cards since the 300 series will obsolete everything in a half year.
