I replaced my 7800 gt with a 9600gt, because i was getting this wierd green tint on my screen. Turns out it was the LCD monitor that was fried.
I only play WoW, WC3, combat arms and some other games, nothing too hardcore.
I am going to replace the monitor but do you think that the upgrade on the video card would be worth the 100 bucks i spent, or should i return it?
9600gt is definitely a ton better than a 7800gt. $100 is a bit pricey for it though. In that price range you want an HD4770 if you can find one and if not I'd grab an HD4850. An 9800gt is less than $100 these days if you want to stick with nvidia and the HD4830 is also worth looking at.
I agree. I have a 9600GT, with a Athlon X2 4600 and a 1440x900 LCD. Plays Left 4 Dead quite well, The Witcher, Half LIfe 2, BioShock. At least until I update my CPU next month, at which point I'll likely get a new GPU too.
hmm i have a 939 system, and am looking to upgrade it in the near future anyways. Duno if am3 is worth it right now. I live in canada btw so thats 100 CAD, ill probobly return it then and just buy a nice monitor for now.
Intel is of course faster, but liking now the better upgrade paths with AMD, as if you get an AM2+/AM3 board, you should be able to run the new phenom 2 chips. I don't know what other chips are coming down the pike, but hopefully they will still be upgradeable come next gen for processors.

In this case, going AM3+DDR3+HD4800 would be the better choice, although that's what I would do. I agree, the monitor should be done first, if you really only play WOW, the LCD would help. I don't know, at 939 your stuck, I would fix the monitor issue first.
