4870 drivers install error "out of disk space"

Anyone ever had this happen and know why?

I downloaded and tried to install the latest drivers from AMD, first tried the drivers+catalyst package, gives me this error saying the install failed because it was out of disk space

Ok, tried the driver only, same thing. downloaded and ran driver cleaner, cleaned up all amd drivers, tried to install again, same error.

Frustrated, tried to install old drivers just to be able to play games again, same error message. Had to run system restore to recover.

Out of disk space doesn't make sense 'cause I have 400GB free on my main hard drive, and 8GB of RAM, so there must be something else causing this. Google search returned unrelated/unanswered posts.

any ideas?

The only time that I have ever [should/will] seen that particular message was when I was trying to put a 4+gig file on a 32 bit fat partition,,,????..Need NTFS for such large files..

yeah, i've had that happen too.

anyway, this problem and a couple of game crashes were enough to call my Vista install a bust and try out Windows 7 RC
