Sorry not even sure if this is the right place to post.

But to the best of ym knowledge, today, the harddrives always runs pretty cool by themselves and do not need any cooling. Given this situation, why do most cases place the main FAN right in front of the harddrive, wouldnt it be more effective if they just cool the pci components? Is there any reason why the harddrive bays are always located right after the big fan... ?

That is an excellent question, but as far as there being any reason, its probably lack of ingenuity, or resistance to change what has been accepted as the norm for many years, however sometimes in life, if you want something done right you just have to do it yourself.

Probably should have taken before pictures but I didn't think about it, originally the case had 2 HDD carriages blocking the front intakes, my mods were quite major and completely changed the entire cooling and airflow, however the end results turned out to be worth all the trouble.

LOL, which hd's are you talking about? I need to get me one of those if they don't get hot. Maybe because they are in front of those fans that it's staying cool. That's a good idea to put a fan in front of a hd's. You'd be surprised, take the fan away and the hd can get really hot.

There are many cooling methods for cases that don't have fans in front of the hd's and you want to question why it's like that?

Also, pci components and such usually have their own cooling methods attached or they don't need to be cooled much.

The only that has to be done yourself is when they don't put a fan in front of a hd then it needs some sort of cooling if you want to keep it from getting too hot.

Then you got a whole bunch of people complaining about their hd going out all the time when heat is the issue.

The fact of the matter is that hard drives do get hot along with everything else. Some people might forget that even their RAM gets hot.

So it will be better if there is a fan in front of the hard driver cage to cool the hard drivers and another one below supply cool air to the rest of the case.

Unlike the RAM and other parts though, it has constant moving parts. Mobos, ram, pci components and such do get hot but are not as likely to malfunction like an hd.

Interesting series of modifications... But where did you hide the PSU?

My personal desktop is a Silverstone Fortress. The drive cages are slotted to allow airflow (from the front 18CM intake fan), so drives seem to keep cool enough. I only have three online at any one time though, for real storage I use my NAS.

Check the last picture where the power cord from the wall comes!

It is on the side of case outside

You're very observant croc, you'd be surprised how many look at those pics and never realize the P/S is MIA from them.

Like your sig by the way!

ainarssems spotted the obvious, not me... But the new photo makes it all clear!

My sig is just my response to the new forums rating system. The line was most recently used in Blazing Saddles, but was from High Sierra originally, I think...
