Ok i just finished puting together my new system, its not totally new but most parts are. I have a couple questions.

Old Sytem: Q6600, 8800gt, MSI p31 mobo, Gskill 2gb RAM, BFG 550w PSU

NEW System: Same q6600, ATi Radeon 4890, PAtriot Viper 4gb, Corsair 650w PSU. gigabye x48 DS5

i have a couple questions/concerns:

1. I am having trouble overclocking my cpu. my stock volts is 1.32, is that normal? most people stock volts with this cpu are in the 1.2 range. I had to bump volts up to 1.34 to get to 3.0ghz and at 3.2 my system crashed 5mins into prime 95.

2. Should crysis run well on this new machine? I am running it on Windows 7 1680x1050 and with everything on vh it is very gittery. so i decided to run fraps and i set everything to high and all i got in battles was 10-20fps. this seems low for my system.

last: My cpu tems seem a little high. right now while i am typing this they are 38, 35, 32, 36. Under a couple minutes of prime 95 there wen up to 75c! When playing crysis though the highest they got is 50c.

sorry for all the questions but im just frusturated after spending $700 and it doesnt seem up to par, any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I just got done playing Dirt with everything on Ultra and got a steady 40-45 fps. The only thing is it didnt look as good as when i had my 8800gt. the shadows especially looked bad, they had a purple tint around the edges of all shoadows and everything just look sub par.

are you using the stock heatsink. if so that could be part of the problem. I would also suggest reseating the heat sink no matter which one you have

Why would you spend $700 to slightly upgrade your system, doesnt make any sense to me. Seems you could have just bought a better graphics card and got the same results.

I am using a THermaltake V1, i am gunna re apply the thermal paste today and see if it helps. And i spent 700 on a new mobo, gpu, and psu. mainly cuz my last mobo was a $30 pos and i figured i would be able to OC wit hthis one, plus its crossfire so i can add another 4890 later.

i think it hekped a little with the cpu, Windows experience rated the cpu 5.9 when OCed to 3.0 on the otehr board, and a 7.1 when i hadnt even OCed it yet on this one.

Ok happier now, reapplied Tx-2 to cpu, now my temps idel around 25c and under prime95 load highest times were 50c. running stable 3.2oc with 1.36v

Crysis runs sick on a 8800GT still and Windows 7. Thats what i'm still running with E6600 @3.0GHz.

As for your OC over 3.2, your RAM is what is limiting you. I don't know if you have DDR2 800 or higher...but thats what makes OC differences ^_^

You should also be able to run stable OC's with stock voltages...but oh well looks like you got it figured...

yeah i dunno why crysis is running so bad, it could be these 4890 9.4 drivers are just new? Oh and i have DDR 2 1066

You only have 2GBs right? Thats the problem there ^_^...you need 4GBs...the game will use 2GBs while Windows uses 1GB...LOL. Crysis is a system hogg...:(

Sorry, i missed it there...

Go into the BIOS and make sure C1E and EIST are turned off for now. When you get a stable OC, turn EIST on later.

I would clock the CPU down to 3.0GHz, and set voltages down to 1.2 or the lowest value. Thats for the CPU...

For MCH/ICH...crank up the volgtages for FSB stability...

For you RAM, i would change it to manual and increase the voltage to 2.0 or 2.1 depending on RAM specs...i think for that one its 2.1. The reference freqency should be 266 and the memory freqency should be 800.

If this does not work...

I got it stable at 3.2. Im not too bummed anymore cuz anything that isnt crysis runs like a champ with all settings at max and AA. I did the same bench mark as www.pcgamershardware.com did on COD 5 and my computer beats out theirs with a 4870x2 by about 10 frames so that makes me happy. it must just be something with crysis... o well.
